Bar and double bar graphs are used to compare data
Line graphs are used to show data over time

3rd quarter book projects

This is our final week in 3rd quarter! Wow, this year has really flown by! This week we are continuing to learn about fact and opinions in reading. Facts can be looked up and proven or disproven. Opinions are someone's thought and feelings. They cannot be proven or disproven. We will be taking a quiz on Thursday. We are working on constructed response questions in writing, and writing to a prompt. In math we are continuing to learn about graphing. We will be creating and reading bar graphs, double bar graphs, line graphs and circle graphs. We will be taking a short quiz on Friday. This Friday, students have a half day. Dismissal is at 11:50. Please let me know if there are changes to your child's transportation. As always feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Updates

This week in math we are learning about graphing and data analysis. We are working with frequency tables, line plots, outliers, mean, median, mode, and range. In writing we are finishing our expository writing today! We will begin working on how to answer free response questions, and write a letter to a prompt. In reading we are learning about knowing the difference between a fact and an opinion. We have conferences on Thursday evening. Please let me know if you would like to meet, if I haven't talked with you already. Friday the students get out of school at 11:50. As always let me know if you have any questions!

Cause and effect

Students have been learning about cause and effect relationships. We will be taking a short quiz on Friday!

Book projects are due Friday! If you need any information on this project or a cereal box, please let me now as soon as possible. In reading we are continuing to work on cause and effect relationships. When reading with your child ask them to find one and tell you the cause and effect. We ask ourselves why to find the cause, and what happened to find the effect. In writing we are continuing to work on our expository texts. We are writing the conclusions today, then we will begin revising, looking at sentence variety, and word choice. We will begin editing after for punctuation, spelling, and grammar. These will be published next week!!! In math we are working on a few lessons for probability, and taking out quiz on Friday. We are learning what the possible outcomes, predicting what is likely to happen in the experiment, writing the possibilities as a fraction and combinations. Tuesday is McDonald's night at the Crestwood McDonald's from 4-8. We also have an SPTG meeting in the cafeteria at 6:45. The music performance is on Sunday at 4:00.
